Stargate Universe set to Rip Off Voyager

So just to keep it straight when the Stargate folks decided to do a spinoff series of Stargate, they made Stargate Atlantis and Stargate Atlantis ripped off Star Trek DS9. So when they decided to make another spinoff, Stargate Universe, naturally they decided to rip off Star Trek Voyager. Honestly, read it for yourself.

“Universe” introduces a team of explorers who find an ancient unmanned ship called the Destiny. Unable to return to Earth, the crew must fend for themselves aboard the ship, which has a preprogrammed mission taking them to the far reaches of the universe.

Ummm okay. I for one can’t wait for the next spinoff Stargate Intrepid, that will be a prequel tracing the beginnings of the Stargate program into the WW2 days or something.

I mean I know originality was never Stargate’s strong suit. Tealc was basically Wolf with a metal plate in his forehead instead of forehead ridges. Going around the galaxy and discovering planet after planet of humans with mildly backward cultures was all too often the original premise of Star Trek, an idea that Star Trek long since abandoned after it became mindwarpingly ridiculous, but Stargate justified with a whole backstory about humans being brought as slaves through the Stargates and somehow all developing harmonious interracial stone age cultures.

Stargate Atlantis was DS9 done on the cheap. Now Stargate Atlantis is gone and so naturally there’s another Star Trek series in the wings waiting to be done on the cheap, Star Trek Voyager. Meet ummm Stargate Universe. No resemblance whatsoever.

Stargate though is unfortunately all too perfect for SciFi, it’s completely vacuous, mostly about shooting aliens, gives you nothing to think about and is completely disposable and won’t give the SciFi channel a bad geeky image. No wonder the same people who canceled Farscape, destroyed Sliders, messed up Battlestar Galactica will continue ordering idiotic Stargate spinoffs that will then be turned into Direct to DVD franchises for all of Stargate’s four adult fans with access to credit cards.
