Microsoft’s Linux War

Well Microsoft continues to move in on Linux. The basic strategy from Novell to Xandros is what we’ve seen already, divide and conquer. Microsoft, which has an enduring sense of corporate greed, divided the corporate Linux firms from their open source roots, selling protection Mafia Don style to their younger corporate cousins in order to crush Linux itself and of course once detached from the philosophy of the open source community, Microsoft knows quite well that the companies become nothing more than orphans, which can be easily discarded along the way.

Microsoft has come around to recognizing that the nature of the problem is different here, it’s not merely a matter of defeating corporate competitors but of destroying a movement and the best way to do that is to recreate it from a movement to a conventional corporate competition that Microsoft can shred and batter with the power of its monopoly.
