Battlestar Galactica to be Terminated

Considering its terrible ratings and the increasing drift of the third season, it’s not surprising that SciFi is saying that the fourth season of Battlestar Galactica will be its last. Battlestar Galactica’s first and second seasons were its best. Season Three got a lot of mileage out of its Iraq war ripoff opening but then flailed about more and more aimlessly and finally finished with a season finale that had most people scratching their heads and going, “What the Hell?”

Ron Moore is spinning it as his decision but let’s face reality, SciFi tends to kill non-performing shows and Battlestar Galactica’s hype mantle had worn thin by the season’s end and so had its ratings. BSG is not a cheap show to do and so Battlestar Galactica meets the same fate as Farscape and Sliders and other shows before it.

I can’t say I regret it too much myself. Battlestar Galactica had squandered the Cylon menace and turned them into a joke and once that happened, there was no longer any real viewing interest in them left. Now that half the characters are Cylons, the show has just become a joke. By the series finale, I’m sure we’ll find out they were all Cylons too.
